Product Evaluation Systems Achieves Chemical Analysis Certification

Latrobe, Pa. – April 25, 2011 – Product Evaluations Systems, Inc. (PES), a leading mechanical and metallurgical testing laboratory, today announces the addition of chemical analysis of metals and consulting to compliment its range of physical and mechanical testing services.

“The decision to add chemical analysis to the services offered by PES was customer driven,” said Walt Moorhead, president, PES. “We wanted to become a more well-rounded testing laboratory by offering the supplementary services that our clients need.” PES’s new capabilities include chemical laboratory analysis of metals, ores, recycled materials, ceramics, aggregates and cermets.

Previously, PES was subcontracting its chemical analysis needs, but with the ACLASS ISO 17025 certification status they received in December 2010, PES can now provide in-house assistance in areas such as material processing, production enhancement and product optimization.

To help the company provide precise analysis with fast turnaround at a reasonable price, PES employed a father-son team: Jim Kratofil, Senior Analytical Chemist, and Randy Kratofil, Lab Manager.

Randy Kratofil has more than 15 years experience in chemical analysis with Nova Analytical Labs, Inc., K-Chem Lab, Inc., and Spectrographic Technologies. His experience includes metals analysis, recycled materials and cermets. Randy manages the chemical analysis lab, trains staff members, and conducts test procedures, while his father, Jim, offers consultation.

Jim Kratofil has more than 45 years of chemical lab experience as President of K-Chem Lab, Inc., and Nova Analytical Labs, Inc., and engineer and materials analyst at Kennametal. He has also been an adjunct professor of chemistry at Westmoreland County Community College and St. Vincent College for 30 years, and served as the US (ANSI) representative to ISO TC-119 SC/4 for 18 years, during which time he authored 14 ASTM methods and 10 ISO methods. He provides PES with consultation regarding metal products, chemical analysis, and ceramics/carbides to build PES labs into a successful technical enterprise.
